What is The Studio?

Do you make beats, write lyrics/melodies, or play an instrument? Maybe you already have a bunch of songs up on SoundCloud? The Studio is the heart of Totem Star - an encouraging and inclusive creative space to take risks and learn all about music production and performance while building an incredible community. No matter where you are in the creative process, we'd love to help you turn your ideas into music.

About The Studio

Our studio located at King Street Station between Chinatown/ International District and Pioneer Square is currently open Monday through Fridays between 4-8pm. Please refer to our schedule below for details. Below is a snapshot of The Studio program that we offer for in-person and online sessions. Online sessions can be taken through Zoom and other social media formats that can make video calls. You can book one-on-one in-person or remote sessions with one of our Artist Mentors to work on songwriting, vocals, beatmaking, and more.

Getting Into Our Studio

Our studio is located directly to the right of the 2nd floor main entrance of King Street Station. If the front door is locked to get into the building, go down the stairs to your right from the main entrance. From there, you will enter through the ground floor of King Street Station, which is the Amtrak train station. Introduce yourself to the security and say you are going up to Totem Star. You will be directed to an elevator and take it to the 2nd floor.

If you're 14-25 years old and are interested in working with us, here's how:

1.  Fill out the Artist Info FormAre you a singer? Rapper? Do you make beats? Play any instruments? This form gives us the information we need to engage with you further.

2. Email us at info@totemstar.org to get scheduled for a new artist orientation. Meet the team and we'll discuss the logistics of moving forward with your project. You'll meet an amazing community of artists, musicians, and potential collaborators!

3. Once you complete items 1 & 2 above, you will be given the password to book a studio slot through the button below. Studio time can be used for many different things! Recording, beat making, vocal lessons, instrument lessons, and even music business consultations are some of the popular ways our young artists have been using their time. Totem Star is artist-directed, which means you direct, and we support!
