To Prepare:
Find a quiet space

Find a song(s) that calms your spirit (ready to play for yourself)
If possible, bring a plant into the space
Wear something that feels comfortable for you

🟣 ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR | @itsjoshtradramus
"Hello, my name is Joshua Colon & I have been a martial artist my entire life. I started training with my father in traditional Chinese martial arts & San Da. My passion and love for martial arts and it's principles has been with me my whole life & I've transferred that passion from training and competing to coaching. My goal is to empower all marginalized people through movement, martial arts and community.

I thought about the revolutionary nature of Black, Brown & Asian women, transwomen, nonbinary people, LGBTQ+ people learning how to defend themselves. Being given the tools to learn and embrace martial arts without having to deal with the sexism, the homophobia, the authoritarianism & the harassment that can and does exist in gym culture. That's why I started teaching martial arts, to help empower my community, to take back the martial arts that are traditionally from ethnic cultures and give it to the people that need it most."

🟣 COVID SAFETY
- Masks on, frequent sanitizing of the hands, distanced when possible, and the room will be sanitized!
- Please do not come if you feel any symptoms of COVID (fever, cough, etc), have recently travelled, or have been in direct contact with someone with COVID.

Lavender Sessions: Movement Workshop with Tracey Wong

Sign up to join Lavender Sessions on Thursday, May 12th from 6-8pm, in-person @ 2+U in Downtown, Seattle!

Join artist mentor, Tracey Wong (she/her) as she guides us through a sensual movement workshop. She is vibrance and joy when she dances and we are excited that she will be sharing with us!

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Tracey will guide us through a warm up, freestyle exercises, and will be sharing her philosophies and practices on sensual movement. This workshop has the intention of giving us our own personal movement toolbox to take home that can be used as a practice in bringing us back into our bodies, tapping into our senses, and enjoying our pleasure through movement.  In a society where body dysmorphia, gender dysphoria, and the patriarchy are real, it is important to have spaces where we can reground and be in celebration of our bodies. Yes, we're dancing! Get ready to play!

ABOUT TRACEY

Tracey Wong (she/her) is a queer Teochew-American dancer, educator, student, and community space holder. She was born and raised on Duwamish Land/ Seattle, WA in the Southend and is the daughter of loving parents who were refugees from Vietnam. Tracey takes pride in representing her birthplace and continues to create spaces that empower many, especially for women, queer folks, and communities of color.

Tracey is the co-director and co-founder of Malicious Vixens, a dance crew and sisterhood of Asian American women that align deeply with the values of community care and collaboration. Together, they work to create art that honors their ancestors and histories, but also honors the African diaspora and cultures that they are guests of.

Tracey's current work centers on embracing femininity, fluidity, and de-centering patriarchal narratives with her peers through her classes and gatherings — Honey n Sensualitea, Waacking/ Whacking class, and Waacking Open Mic Nights. Visit maliciousvixens.com/tracey-wong to learn more about Tracey.

🟣 ABOUT HALEY GRAVES

The way gravel in a driveway jumps when the truck rolls in from who knows where. The way birthday candles dazzle and glow when your eyes are at their widest. The hooky-shook pop-punk rock from Seattle-via-Maine-based artist, Haley Graves, is the stuff that butterfly-effects an earthquake somewhere millions of miles around the world. Will you be there when the wings are just outstretched, the vibrations rumbling?

Graves, who will release her debut EP, She Thinks My Pop Punk Is Cringey, on July 30th sounds like the band that originally inspired those like Green Day, Blink-182 and all of the other memorable power-rock-chord groups of the turn of the new century. Yet, perhaps unlike those commercial groups, Graves’ music is authentic, not derivative. The novel, not the carbon copy. In the original, there is experimentation, evolution. The mire is also a birthplace.

While Graves is a new name in the Emerald City, hers will assuredly be one to remember.
